The Diplomatic Club of Slovenia held an opening event, where the vision and plans for the future operations of the club were presented. EU House, 4 May 2022
predstavili svoje smernice za delovanje.  Hiša Eu, 4.5.2022

The purpose of the event was to present the concept of the Diplomatic Club of Slovenia, which was founded at the end of 2021. The club focuses on connecting all stakeholders in diplomacy (ambassadors, general and honorary consuls, attaches, business consultants and other staff and institutions functioning in this area). Such cooperation is the foundation for strengthening relationships and cooperation between peers and is at the same time the opportunity for exchanging opinions and experience. Experience is very important for diplomats, since they are usually referred to another hosting country after completing their current term of office. Experience and connections, acquired by the previous diplomat, are extremely valuable for the new diplomat, coming to the country, and they can help save a lot of time and energy, which can be invested in other activities.

Most sectors already have their own professional associations (accountants’ association, managers’ association, project managers’ association, medical chamber etc.). Now, diplomats also have their own club and an excellent opportunity to submit proposals for the functioning of the club to get the most out of it.

The Diplomatic Club was not established to intervene in content that is already available, but to merge synergies with different institutions that are already functioning (International Relations Society, Slovenian Business Club, Manager Association, SPIRIT Agency, Club, managed by Mr Toš, Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, ICPE ...) to jointly establish content and activities that will benefit the economy. We have already sent the initiative for cooperation to the mentioned institutions.

At yesterday’s event, the Diplomatic Club of Slovenia hosted the participants of “official” diplomacy and participants who are honorary consuls. The delegation came from nine countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Germany, New Zealand, USA, Nepal, Jordan and Hungary. The event was also held virtually, since it was quite unreasonable to expect that diplomats from embassies from all over the world would come to Slovenia for the event.

The participant of both round tables (the first one with diplomats and the second one with honorary consuls) emphasised that nowadays, diplomacy and economy are key areas where Slovenia would have a more active role. This is possible only if all stakeholders in diplomacy stay connected. The participants pointed out that diplomats and honorary consuls are insufficiently utilised and the connections are merely symbolic.

The Diplomatic Club of Slovenia also awarded special honorary membership to Dr Božo Dimnik and former President of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić. Singer Teja Saksida and zitherist Tanja Zajc Zupan performed during the round table break.

The Diplomatic Club of Slovenia was founded with the aim to connect diplomats at all levels. The Club's efforts also focus on activities in economy, politics, culture and development. The members organise events in Slovenia and other countries, thus enabling them to meet new peers at the global and all other levels.
